USS Casco (AVP-12) at Kodiak after being salvaged and refloated, circa 12 September 1942. Casco was torpedoed by Japanese submarine HIJMS RO-61 while laying at anchor in Nazan Bay, Alaska. The resulting explosion killed five and wounded twenty of her crew. Excellent damage control enabled Casco to get underway reaching Dutch Harbor and Kodiak so that emergency repairs could be completed to allow the ship to return to Puget Sound Navy Yard for permanent repairs.
