Reflections on PO1 Houde's
US Coast Guard Service
PLEASE DESCRIBE WHO OR WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO JOIN THE COAST GUARD.
I come from a Coast Guard family. My father served in the navy during WW2, then did a four year hitch in the Coast Guard. Facing hard times my father enlisted in the Coast Guard again in 1959. Part of his career was family lighthouse duty from 1962 till 1967. Living at two Coast Guard lighthouse stations, Portland Head Light Station and Annisquam Light Station I actually felt as if I was already in the Coast Guard.
