The NCO Club Porch At Thule Air Base

from  1966-1967, EM, USCGC Southwind (WAGB-280/NMBT)  album
This photo was taken at midnight as I was leaving the NCO Club the U.S. Air Force Base, Thule, GreenLand. In the distance, you can see Mount Dundas and the pier. There was not much for "liberty call" at Thule but the NCO Club had a USO Show while we were there. I left the ship and walked to the NCO Club. After checking my I.D. card, I was told I couldn't stay because I wasn't 21, even though I was a 2nd Class Petty Officer (E-5). I was directed to the Airman's Club (an extensive walk) an after entering, I was told I couldn't stay because I was an NCO. "I found myself in a dilemma in deed". I returned to the NCO Club and found my Master Chief along with two other Chief Petty Officers from the Southwind. After a brief meeting with the Manager, I was given full privileges of the Club. The Manager apologized and said this had never happened before. To my dismay, the USO Show was over and club was closing in 30 minutes and that's my story of the social visit to Thule Greenland Air Force Base.
