2022 AUXILIARY LIFE JACKET WEARER OBSERVATION (AUX-LWO) TEAM
For service as set forth in the following
Citation:
â??For exceptionally meritorious service from July 2022 to September 2022, while serving on the 2022 Auxiliary Life Jacket Wearer Observation (AUX-LWO) Team. The life jacket wear rate program was initiated in 1999 by the United States Coast Guard which the Auxiliary has participated since 2014. Demonstrating dedication, superior planning and organizational skills, the team completed annual training, scheduling, and onsite observations of recreational boaters at seventy-six sites in twenty states. Each team member spent four hours at each of their observation sites, and many traveled long distances. This successful operation was effectively led in each state using State Coordinators, many of whom were also observers, coordinating their individual State activities with the Auxiliary management team, which consisted of a V-Directorate Division Chief and two Branch Chiefs. In 2022, seventy-four observers from ten Districts across the United States provided detailed observations of seven thousand six hundred sixty-six vessels. The dedication, pride, and professionalism displayed by the 2022 Auxiliary Life Jacket Wearer Observation Team are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.â??

The Secretary of Homeland Security takes great pleasure in presenting the Department of Homeland Security Outstanding Unit Award to The UNITED STATES COAST GUARD for service as set forth in the following
CITATION:
"For outstanding service to the Department of Homeland Security and the United States of America from 25 August 2017 to 30 November 2020 during multiple devastating hurricanes, a Presidentially-declared National Emergency along the Southwest Border, and the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus global pandemic. Across four of the most active and devastating hurricane seasons on record, the United States Coast Guard consistently recognized the significant risks to life and property, prepositioning its personnel, vessels, and aircraft to rapidly respond, saving or assisting over 13,000 lives. The Coast Guard swiftly restored the flow of commerce to dozens of vital, storm-damaged ports by reestablishing thousands of aids to navigation and removing countless hazards caused by displaced vessels. Following the Declaration of National Emergency along the Southwest Border, the Coast Guard provided mission-enhancing aviation, surface, medical, and ground support to Customs and Border Protection to assist in processing unprecedented numbers of migrants arriving at the border. Addressing the drivers of this land migration, the Coast Guard countered cartel-driven instability in Central America through record levels of at-sea drug interdictions yielding 1.3 million pounds of seized cocaine and the apprehension of 1,856 smugglers, while also providing critical support to the President's Enhanced Counternarcotic Operations in 2020. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Coast Guard partnered with multiple agencies to safely disembark more than 250,000 cruise ship passengers and 90,000 crew members from 125 vessels, preventing outbreaks and inundation of local hospitals. Further, the Coast Guard exhibited exceptional resilience conducting its full portfolio of multi-mission operations during both the pandemic and the 35-day partial government lapse in the Fiscal Year 2019 appropriations, including response to myriad regional, national, and global crises, including: the capsizing of M/V GOLDEN RAY and the enforcement of United Nations sanctions against North Korea "ship to ship" transfers. Through their outstanding courage, resourcefulness, and professionalism, members of the United States Coast Guard reflected great credit upon themselves and upheld the highest traditions fo the United States of America."

The United States Coast Guard Academy Admissions Partner Team
For services as set fourth in the following citation:
"For exceptionally meritorious service from January 2018 to October 2019, while serving as a member of the United States Coast Guard Academy Admissions Partner Team, including Active Duty, Auxiliary, Academy Minority Outreach Team (AMOT), and Coast Guard civilian employees, you contributed significantly to achieving strategic recruitment and outreach objectives for the Coast Guard. Throughout this period the Admissions Partner Team traveled in excess of 165,000 miles completing more than 3,500 admission events, including 500 high school visits, 650 college fairs, and 350 Congressionally sponsored service academy events nationwide. These collective volunteer efforts resulted in over 30,000 quality student interactions and contributed to an estimated $192,000 savings in travel expenditures had Academy Admissions taken part in these events on their own. The team fostered relationships with students, parents and educational influencers to build a divers pool of well-qualified applicants to draw the future leadership of the Coast Guard from. The Team was also responsible for conducting 1,240 applicant interviews and 137 appointment presentations to candidates in their local communities. Over the last two years, holistic diversity throughout the Corps of Cadets increased significantly, including the highest female class percentage in Academy history of 39 percent. The team supported an applicant pool of almost 2,200 students each year, yielding appointed students at an unprecedented rate of 75 percent. The Team's direct engagement with prospective cadets ensured inquiries resulted in completed applications, and appointed students accepted their seat in the class. The Team served a critical role assisting the Academy in increasing awareness, strengthening and diversifying the applicant pool and meeting Commandant's Strategic Goals for achieving a strong and diverse workforce. The dedication, pride and professionalism displayed by the Admissions Partner Team are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard"

The Commandant of the United States Coast Guard takes pleasure in presenting the COAST GUARD MERITORIOUS TEAM COMMENDATION to:
S/V LE FAUCON MEDICAL EVACUATION TEAM
For service set forth in the following:
CITATION:
â??For exceptionally meritorious service on September 13, 2020 in response to a report of a medical emergency on the S/V LE FAUCON. At approximately 1300, the Coast Guard received a report that the 35 foot S/V LE FAUCON was veering off course with a single occupant slouched over the helm. Good Samaritans in a nearby vessel arrived on scene first, found the master unresponsive, and commenced CPR. Within five minutes of receiving the report, the Medical Evacuation Team arrived on scene and embarked the sailboat to assume patient care. The team quickly determined that the most effective lifesaving action was to transfer the patient to the Coast Guard rescue boat for immediate transport to advanced care by awaiting first responders on land. After moving the patient to the rescue boat, the Medical Evacuation Team cleared the patientâ??s airway and continued CPR. Once ashore, the team then transferred the patient to an ambulance within eight minutes of assuming patient care. These swift actions provided the patient with access to the highest level of care available in the shortest amount of time. Simultaneously, other members of the team used their knowledge of sailing vessels to establish positive control of the adrift sailboat until local law enforcement and commercial salvage took custody of the vessel for investigative purposes. Although the patient later succumbed to his maladies, the teamâ??s actions remain stalwart and embody the Coast Guardâ??s Search and Rescue Ethos. The dedication, pride, and professionalism displayed by the S/V LE FAUCON Medical Evacuation Team are in keeping with the highest tradition of the United States Coast Guard.â??
The Operational Distinguishing Device is authorized.

For service as set forth in the following
CITATION:
â??For exceptionally meritorious service from June 24, 2014 to June 23, 2019 while providing extraordinary levels of public service and support to the United States Coast Guard. Whether supporting response operations for national disasters or local mishaps, the Auxiliary always answered the call enhancing Coast Guard mission performance. In 2017, exceptional Auxiliary talents were brought to bear in response to Hurricanes HARVEY, IRMA, and MARIA. Auxiliarists filled essential incident command post watch positions, augmented active duty units, and provided over 19,000 hours of vital support to the Seventh and Eight Coast Guard Districts. In 2018, the Auxiliary provided the initial on-scene response to the tragic â??Duck Boatâ?? sinking in Branson, Missouri. Auxiliary assets maintained safety zones for over 100 hours, and were very instrumental to the preservation of the accident site security. The Auxiliary also forged new and innovative ways to support the Coast Guard, including establishment of programs that assisted Coast Guard chaplains and financial educators, and the creation of a revolutionary partnership with the â??Sea Scouts,â?? providing a new generation of Americaâ??s youth with an attractive path to becoming part of the Coast Guard. The Auxiliaryâ??s unflagging compassion and generosity were invaluable to the sustainment of Coast Guard workforce readiness during the unprecedented 35 day partial federal government shutdown in January 2019. Demonstrating unheralded professionalism and extraordinary commitment, the Auxiliary conducted over 977,000 vessel safety checks and marine dealer visits, delivered over 133,000 hours of boating safety instruction, logged nearly 17 million hours of support, saved over 700 lives, assisted over 19,700 boaters in distress, prevented the loss of more than $101 million in property, and cast an indelible image of superb service to our Nationâ??s maritime public. As the Auxiliary marks its 80th anniversary, the professionalism, pride, and devotion to duty displayed by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard.â??

UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AUXILIARY -011/14
1. This morning, in recognition of the outstanding and unparalleled
achievements of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary at the time of its 75th
anniversary, the Commandant of the Coast Guard awarded the Coast Guard Unit
Commendation to all Auxiliarists who have served during the past five years.
The citation follows:
The Commandant of the Coast Guard takes pleasure in presenting the COAST
GUARD UNIT COMMENDATION to:
UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AUXILIARY
for service as set forth in the following
CITATION:
"For exceptionally meritorious service from June 24, 2009 to June 23,
2014, while providing unprecedented levels of dedicated public service and
operational support to the U. S. Coast Guard's missions. Demonstrating
remarkable professionalism and boating safety expertise, the Auxiliary
performed over 1.1 million vessel safety checks and marine dealer visits,
delivered over 540 thousand hours of boating safety course instruction and
conducted over 809 thousand hours of public outreach. Displaying superior
underway and airborne operational proficiency, Auxiliarists logged over 19.8
million hours of support and patrol missions, saved over one thousand lives,
assisted over 20 thousand boaters in distress and prevented the loss of more
than 185 million dollars in property. The Auxiliary always answered the
call, remaining in lockstep with the Coast Guard's response to every major
incident. In 2010, unique Auxiliary talents were brought to bear in the
international response to the Haitian earthquake, blazing new trails in the
application of social media to locate and save dozens of trapped victims.
Also during that year, well-qualified Auxiliarists filled essential incident
command post watch positions and augmented active duty units to support the
Deepwater Horizon response. Similarly in 2012, Auxiliary commitment
following Super Storm SANDY and Hurricane IRENE was instrumental to
effective Coast Guard response and recovery operations. The Auxiliary
consistently found innovative ways to support the Coast Guard, including
establishment of the Auxiliary Food Services program which trained
Auxiliarists to augment Coast Guard galleys, afloat and ashore. Auxiliarists
involved with Public Affairs, Interpreter Corps, America's Waterway Watch,
and many other programs further contributed to Coast Guard success by
volunteering their professional talents, mastery of trade, and disciplined
initiative wherever and whenever needed. The Auxiliary's unwavering efforts
directly contributed to unprecedented national boating safety achievements,
highlighted in 2013 with the fewest boating fatalities in 50 years. Despite
incredible challenges amid keen competition for America's volunteers, the
Auxiliary grew its membership, provided over 22 million hours of
inspirational support to the Coast Guard, and kept our Nation's coasts,
lakes, and waterways safe and secure. The professionalism, pride, and
devotion to duty displayed by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary are in
keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard."

Diana was the first major hurricane to hit the U.S. East Coast in nearly 20 years. Watches and warnings were issued for the storm along the East coast between eastern Florida and Virginia. It caused moderate damage in North Carolina while it looped offshore and after it made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane. Forming on September 8, Diana moved northward and wandered across North Carolina for a couple of days during mid-September, dropping heavy rainfall. Once it left the state and accelerated east-northeast, Diana quickly evolved into an extratropical cyclone. Damages to the United States totaled $65.5 million (1984 USD). Three indirect fatalities were caused by the cyclone.... More
